Buffer alternative

Chirpy vs Buffer

Buffer is a simple, low-cost scheduler with a free plan and pricing by the channel. If you already have your posts and just need them out on time, it is hard to beat on price. Chirpy costs more because it does more of the work before scheduling: it learns your brand from your website and writes and designs the posts, then helps you answer the comments.

Which one fits you

Chirpy fits better if

  • You have no time to write captions or design images every week.
  • You want posts that sound like your brand without briefing a tool from scratch each time.
  • You want AI video, carousels and product photos alongside your calendar.

Buffer fits better if

  • You only need to schedule posts you have already made, at the lowest price.
  • You want a free plan, or you post to Threads, Bluesky, Mastodon or Google Business Profile.
  • Your team is large and you want unlimited team members without a per-plan user count.

Price: Buffer is cheaper, and that is fine

Buffer's pricing page lists a free plan for up to 3 channels, then Essentials at $5 a month per channel and Team at $10 a month per channel, with a 14-day free trial. Five channels on Essentials is $25 a month. Chirpy Basic is $49 a month for 5 social accounts, so on scheduling alone Buffer costs less.

The difference is what the money buys. Buffer charges for the channels you schedule to. Chirpy charges for a plan that includes making the posts, the images and, from Advanced, the videos.

What Buffer does well

Buffer is easy to start with and easy to afford. Its pricing page lists an AI Assistant and a community inbox for replying to comments on every plan, including the free one. Team adds approval workflows, custom access and unlimited team members. It also supports more networks than Chirpy does today, including Threads, Bluesky, Mastodon, Substack and Google Business Profile.

What Chirpy adds before you schedule

In Chirpy the post usually does not exist yet when you open it. The AI Brand Kit Wizard reads your website once, and every caption, poster and carousel after that follows the same voice and colors. Campaigns turns one brief into a month of connected posts, AI Image Studio and Photoshoot make the visuals, and AI Video makes short clips on Advanced and up.

You review everything in the Calendar and approve it before it goes out to Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, TikTok, YouTube, X or Pinterest. Each Monday, the Weekly Brief in your dashboard shows what worked.
